.::. ORGANIC 3D.::.
1)Start with a 400*400 image (any size will do)
2)Paint the background black
3)Add a new layer and apply filter/render/clouds to the new layer
This is what you should get (clouds are random, so it will vary all the time)

4)
With the cloud layer still activated, go to blending options and choose bevel
and emboss and contour
For bevel and emboss, check my settings:

5) Now take the eraser tool and find the FUZZBALL BRUSH, take a really big diameter. The bigger the picture, the bigger the diameter needs to be...Now put the crosshair of the brush in the middle of the picture and press the left mouse button 1 time and 1 time only !!!
You will see you actually made a kind of crater in the cloud layer like below:

6) Again go the the blending options and choose pattern overlay and take any pattern you like, but mind the scale, make the scale value a bit bigger, it will come out better and more realistic:

7)
All you have to do now is making the layer a bit bigger, so go to edit/transform
and scale and i used 120%W and 120%H
You can see that the bevel border is now gone and you will have a very realistic
organic 3D thingy here

5) Or you can make a fake 3D effect and use the perspective tool:

This is what i made using this technique:
